Star Wars: Legacy: 31: Vector, Part 12

What is it ? : In orbit around Had Abaddon Darth Wyyrlok tells the crew of the Relentless, the Sith ship that they arrived on that he is going down to the surface and that he senses that Darth Krayt will need him soon.
On the surface Celeste Morne is fighting Darth Krayt but has lost control to Karness Muur who exists within the Amulet she wears, Muur is trying to explain that the betrayal was not him but was Celeste, and orders the Rakghouls to attack Cade and his comrades. Cade faces off against Darth Stryfe, taunting him and easily beating him in combat.
Celeste shrugs off the control of Muur, but finds herself facing off against not only Krayt but also Darth Maladi, having difficulty holding back the waves of Force Lightning they blast at her, as Muur urges her to give up.
Cade and Azlyn Rae are fighting Rakghouls, when Azlyn sees an opening to help Celeste, leaving Cade to deal with the Rakghouls himself.
Embracing the power of the Dark Side, she begins reflecting the lightning back at the pair, and Azlyn leaps onto the back of Krayt distracting him as the energy blasts the pair, frying them and sending Krayt tumbling into a canyon, and Azlyn collapses burned and motionless to the ground.
Cade confronts Celeste about frying Azlyn, but she says there was always going to be a cost to defeating Krayt and Azlyn paid that cost, but she also realises she is losing control to Karness Muur.
She turns to Cade, telling him that while he flirts with the Dark Side, she knows he is not tempted by the power of Karness Muur and the amulet, turning to him and seeing Zayne Carrick as Cade ignites his lightsaber killing her.
The ages held back by the Amulet wash over her, and her body crumbles to dust, and the Amulet climbs onto Cade taking him as it's new host as Karness Muur gloats at his new freedom, boasting how he will conquer the galaxy.
But Cade is bored and annoyed by his cackling, and tells him that his healing ability allows him to see the flaws in the Amulet and pour the Force into those flaws, causing the Amulet to crack into pieces, destroying Karness Muur finally.
Jariah realises that Azlyn is still breathing, and Cade begin trying to heal her, but she is too far gone for him to do anything but sustain her, so he decides they should return to Kiffex to ger Droo to heal her.
Ganner Krieg says she is an Imperial Knight and they have healers, but Cade tells him the Knights are traitors, he knows that they tried to gain the Amulet for their Emperor, and Shado Vao stands in their way telling them Azlyn was a Jedi before an Imperial Knight. So Krieg and Draco head for their fighters to return to report everything to Roan Fel.
Elsewhere on Had Abaddon Darth Wyyrlok has gathered Talon, Stryfe and Maladi and placed them in Bacta Tanks, and heads out where he finds Krayt who is still hanging on. He tells Wyyrlok he has learned how to heal himself and he can survive, which Wyylok tells him is a magnificent dream, but the dreamer must die. As he fries Krayt with Force Lightning and levitates his body aboard their shuttle. . . .

High Points : A fantastic end to Vector, and one that ties very closely into the plotline of Legacy as a whole. Cade's powers being key to the destruction of Karness Muur and his Amulet is brilliant, and Krayt is apparently killed and at the hand of his loyal servant Wyyrlok.
And of course I liked the way that at least in Celeste's mind, the story linked back to Zayne Carrick and where it all began.
The way that Celeste realises that Cade isn't interested in power, while he's using the Dark Side for healing, Karness Muur has nothing to offer him, so he'll be able to easily resist the power of the Amulet and the influence of Muur to destroy it.

Low Points : First of all, this doesn't seem like the end of Krayt, this seems too easy. And while there's definitely interesting stories to be told as Wyyrlok siezes control of the Sith Empire in a far more intellectual way that the brutal violence of Krayt, he just doesn't seem to be enough of a threat to carry the series.
And while I love the way they tie Cade's personality and the fact he does not desire power into resisting the influence of Karness Murr and the Amulet, but they have to make Muur stupid as he also could offer Cade healing advice on Azlyn to tempt him. That said, they both believe she is dead at that moment, so Muur can be forgiven his lapse in judgement.

Also, why does Celeste turn to dust when she is killed. It gives the impression that the Amulet has kept her from aging over the thousands of years she has had it, and upon her death the years all take effect, making he crumble away. But it seems as if for the majority of those years she was in stasis? That it was the vault she was kept in stopped time, rather than any ability of the Amulet.

So what do you really think ? : I really enjoyed this one, it's packed with a lot of stuff going on, from fighting to the destruction of Muur and the Amulet to the attempt to save Azlyn. It really feels like Legacy has found it's stride and is telling a compelling story, with characters you can understand and get behind. Excellent stuff.

Final Words : So the storyline I thought had given Legacy a real focus is already over, it'll be interesting to see what they replace it with, or whether it wanders back to it's meandering directionless storytelling it suffered from until only a few issues ago. I hope not, because Vector has shown Legacy at it's best, and it would be sad if that only lasted within the Vector storyline itself.

Score : 9/10
