What is it ? : On Korriban, Darth Wyyrlok has taken Darth Krayt's body and put it in stasis, Krayt took refuge in stasis in the past to heal his corruption from the Yuuzhan Vong parasites within his body, so Wyyrlok plans to pretend that is what has happened this time allowing him to take the regents position and rule the galaxy as he has before.
The Mynock arrives at Kiffex, and Jariah calls on Rawk for help as the ship is buffeted by the storms in the atmospehre, as Cade keeps pouring power into Azlyn Rae to keep her alive, she asks if Krayt is dead which Cade assures her he is, and she says that her death is worth it then. But Cade refuses to let her go.
Rawk is in communication with the leadership of Kiffex, providing them with work in exchange for allowing his family to stay, but they point out his wife is one of them so they would shelter them anyway.
The Mynock lands, and Rawk notices that Cade has sith eyes when using his healing, and Rawk's wife, Droo asks whether Azlyn wants to be healed as it is the agreement between healer and patient that the patient wants to be saved, and Cade asks her who wants to die, assuring her that Azlyn wants to live just as he collapses from the strain.
He sees a loving moment between him and Azlyn, and sees her blasted along with Krayt, and sees Krayt demanding to be healed.
He awakens in the arms of Deliah Blue, who he accuses of wanting Azlyn dead, and she explains as a Zeltron she cannot be jealous, and while she hates who Cade became with Talon, so will hurt him if he returns to her, she likes who he is around Azlyn.
He immediately goes to Azlyn but Rawk won't let him in, telling him the Dark Side is doing him no good, and to trust Droo, so Cade leaves, going with Jariah to a cantina.
As they leave Shado Vao guestions Cade on whether Krayt is really dead, and Cade assures him he is, as he has disappeared from the force.
On Korriban, Darth Stryfe smashes out of the Bacta tank he is in, sensing that Krayt is gone, he heads to Krayt's chambers, but his way is blocked by a blue Chagrian who blocks his way, matching him in combat, and twisting his body using the force until they are stopped by Darth Wyyrlok who introduces the female as his daughter, potentially the next Darth Wyyrlok. Wyyrlok takes Stryfe inside the chamber where Krayt's body is in statis, and explains that their master is healing.
Stryfe disputes this as he cannot sense Krayt as he has in the past, but Wyyrlok explains that he has established shielding to stop their enemies from sensing Krayt and that matters are as normal for when Krayt is healing. Stryfe agrees to support Wyylok as regent until their master is able to take over once again.
On Kiffex, Rawk and Droo discuss Azlyn's condition, and talk about just letting her go due to her wounds, but Rawk knows of technologies, such as those that were used to sustain Vader which could keep her alive, and although it's the image of evil, it's just technology not the person inside. . . .
High Points : Just a few years ago I would have found the idea that Azlyn was happy with dying to be ridiculous, and would have agreed with Cade, "who wants to die". But having had recent experience of a family member who was experiencing pain and struggle that they just wanted to be let go, this really hits me hard. Azlyn hasn't given up on live, and doesn't want to die, but she doesn't want to be in pain any more, she doesn't want to fight for every moment, she just wants set free.
Cade however is just an idiot, he lies to Droo and Rawk, heads off to get drunk and get in trouble, just to escape everything he's going through, without recognising the similar situation Azlyn is in but hers isn't just emotional pain, it's physical. The story does this fantastically, making me dislike Cade with great storytelling.
I'm also liking the second plot, with Wyyrlok taking over as leader of the Sith, but using his position as the mouthpiece of Krayt to take control. But how long does he think this can last, after months or years does he plan for Krayt to "lose his struggle for life" and by that point Wyyrlok will be so in position that no one will argue? This seems unlikely, as the Sith would be far more likely to point out how he has never been strong enough to rule in his own right, so challenge him at that point.
Low Points : But I can't work out why the series wants me to dislike our protagonist? They could have made it about Cade fighting for life, but instead it's just him being unable to let go. It's a continuing problem with Legacy in making Cade someone I'm interested in reading about. The stories aren't bad, they just have a want to make Cade so different that he's not a hero, and is quite unlikable.
So what do you really think ? : So they're going to put Azlyn in a Vader like suit, remembering that Vader was in constant pain within that suit, with pain leading to suffering and suffering to the Dark Side. Is this what they plan for Azlyn? For her to fall to the Dark Side due to Cade and Rawk's efforts to save her? This could be an interesting plotline, with Cade creating a nemesis, one of the women he loves and having to defeat her.
Final Words : Everything seemed so clear for the direction of the series just a few issues ago, Cade was set against Krayt, And I thought that would be the plot we'd follow through the rest of the series, with Cade gaining allies and becoming key to the defeat of the Sith. But now with Krayt already seemingly defeated, Cade has no interest in fighting the Sith, and even actively is set against it as Azlyn has paid the price for that fight.
So where do we go from here? More issues of Cade dealing with his underworld contacts, as we get issues which deal with the larger scale conflict which Cade is not involved in at all?
This doesn't seem to make any sense, it'd be like if the original movies didn't involve Han Solo in the main plot, except in cut away's to him making smuggling runs and dirty deals.
