Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures: Season 3: Story 10: Nubs and the Bumbling Bandits

What is it ? : Nubs, Kai and Lys are practicing outside the Jedi Temple, when Wes Vinik approaches and asks Nubs if he's ready for their trip to Deppani for a Jedi demonstration. They travel in a Jedi Shuttle, but Wes realises they need fuel, so they land on a nearby planet, and while Pit Droids refuel the shuttle, Wes and Nubs head into a nearby store for snacks.
While they are inside, 3 Ugnaught Bandits spot the ship and decide they can profit from stealing the Power Converter from it, and deactivate the Pit Droids and steal the part.
Nubs and Wes emerge from the store and spot the Ugnaughts, and give chase, but the Ugnaughts speed off on their skiff. Nubs gets frustrated, but Wes calms him down and they follow the trail of smoke the skiff was letting out.
They track it down to a garage, where the owner is tied up, they free him, and he tells them that the only place in town not robbed by the bandits is Jenken's Speeder Garage. So Wes and Nubs head there and catch the Ugnaughts in the middle of robbing it, Nubs becomes frustrated and knocks over a barrel of lubricant and slips and falls over, as does Wes, allowing the bandits to escape. The owner of the shop and Wes find it funny that they're slipping all over the place, but Nubs gets frustrated, and Wes has to help him calm down so he can slowly move out of the patch of lubricant.
The shop owner lends them a speeder bike and they give chase, catching up with the bandits skiff, Nubs leaps on, but the Ugnaughts take defensive manoeuvres, so Nubs must remain calm to keep his balance and detach their cargo trailer.
The Ugnaughts skiff spins out of control and they crash, and Wes forces them to return all their stolen goods and repair any damage they caused, which the Ugnaughts actually enjoy.
Later on Deppani, Nubs and Wes do their performance of Jedi skills much to the entertainment of the crowd. . . .

High Points : It's nice to have a Nubs story this close to the end of the series, although him getting frustrated seems to be the entirety of his characterisation in this one, it would have been nice to actually get some of the features we've seen over the past seasons coming out instead.
I also really liked the normality of the refuelling, they land and go into a store for snacks while the ship gets refuelled, it's so much like a stop at a gas station in the real world.
I also enjoyed the very redneck accents of the Ugnaughts, very much based on old cowboy movies.

Low Points : The redemption of the Ugnaughts is way too easy, they get caught, told to help tidy up the damage they caused, which is something they enjoy more than stealing, so they're redeemed. It doesn't feel very satisfying, it just feels like this close to the end of the series, they didn't want more villains left as recurring, so tied up their storyline as quickly as possible.

So what do you really think ? : A reasonable little story, but it seems strangely unconnected from the rest of the series, at this late stage I think seeing more of the characters we've known in the past would have been better, seeing them return and get one final appearance before the end.

Final Words : And the moral of this episode, be calm and you won't make as many mistakes and get yourself in trouble.

Score : 8/10
