Tales of the Jedi: Episode 5: Practice Makes Perfect

What is it ? : Anakin runs through the corridors of the Jedi Temple, arriving late for a trial that Ahsoka is going through, she must deflect the blaster bolts fired by new training remotes which are more heavily armed and based on the programming of Battle Droids.
She succeeds, but notices Anakin doesn't seem happy with her performance, so presses him in the corridors outside. He admits he is not happy, but not with her performance, with the test itself, telling her the remotes are inferior and not a real test of her abilities.
Taking her to Rex and some Clone Troopers, they perform the same test, and Ahsoka parries only a few shots before being stunned unconscious. When she awakens, she tries again, and again. This is seen through time, moving from the Jedi Temple to aboard Republic Attack Cruisers, until eventually she holds out for five minutes before Rex himself stuns her.
Finally we see Ahsoka and Rex walking down a corridor filled with debris and smoke, until Rex puts on his helmet and pretends she's his prisoner as they enter the hangar bay where Jesse and the 332nd await. . . .

High Points : An interesting tale of Anakins fairly harsh training techniques, which then shows why they were so important by taking us into the final Clone Wars story as Ahsoka faces off against her former allies as they act under order 66. As you realise what's happening it takes your breath away, and is a fantastic piece of storytelling.

Low Points : My only criticism of this one is that if you haven't watched all of Clone Wars, then this final scene will have no impact at all, as you'll not have any idea what's going on, which definitely stops me recommending this series as a stand-alone, where really it's an appendix to the Clone Wars series.

So what do you really think ? : Those last moments are heartbreaking, as you suddenly realise that once again you're witnessing Ahsoka having to fight friends she has trained with for years. People she trusted with her life, now have become murderous enemies.

Final Words : So one more to go, and the series has so far been absolutely triumphant, and it's successes are mainly emotional ones. We've been made to care about Dooku, and saddened by his fall, and now we're shown once again Ahsoka, the young girl we've come to know so well, abandoned and fighting for her life against those she's trusted and relied upon for so long. And we've just one more tale to view, but will it pack as big an emotional punch.

Score : 9/10
