Star Wars: Legacy: 6: Broken Part 5

What is it ? : We get a repeat of the scene with Roan Fel telling his Imperial Knights to not rescue his daughter, but we get an additional point where the Knights afterwards decide that being loyal doesn't always mean being obedient.
On Vendaxa, Darth Talon calls for help from other Sith, and at Cade's ship, Cade and Wolf speak and sense Talon is still stalking them. Wolf tries to convince Cade that he needs to be a Jedi, but Cade tells him of what happened after the attack on Ossus, how he withdrew from the force to stop the Sith locating him, and when rescued by Rav and his pirates they went to plunder Ossus and he saw his fathers dead body and the reaction of the Pirates to seeing dead Jedi, seeing the mighty brought low, so he will never pick up a lightsaber again.
Cade tries to convince Deliah to fix the ship faster, as launching with a damaged ship might kill them, but the Sith definitely will. He also confronts Jariah, as he knows the bounty on Jedi now applies to him and that Jariah hates Jedi.
Afterwards Marisiah speaks to him saying she understands him, as they are both have legacies to carry out, hers as the daughter of the Fel Emperor, and him as the last Skywalker. But unlike him, she says she's not running away from hers.
Suddenly Starfighters battle overhead, as the Imperial Knights and Sith reinforcements arrive, leading to them fighting on the surface with the two Jedi, Wolf and Shado joining as well, giving Cade flashbacks to the battle on Ossus where his father died.
As the fighting continues, Marisiah confronts the leader of the Imperial Knights, Antares Draco, as to why he's disobeyed her father, and he tells her it's because he needed to make sure she was safe, as he loves her. Also Jariah wants to take the ship away as this is a Jedi / Sith battle, nothing to do with Jariah or Deliah, but she won't let him abandon Cade.
In the middle of the battle, a Sith attacks Cade from behind, and seeing it, Marisiah leaps to his defence with her lightsaber, but is hit and collapses, angered Cade reaches out with the Force and pulls the lightsaber into his hand, saying that he has had enough.

High Points : So a more Sith arrive, Imperial Knights arrive, and everyone fights. It's a decent amount of action at the end of the issue, following a lot of scenes of characters motivations. Wolf wants Cade to be a Jedi again, Cade wants to stay out of it as being a Jedi destroyed his life, Jariah doesn't trust Cade as he's been lying about not being a Jedi, Deliah thinks they could have made more money if they'd known Cade was a Jedi but still trusts him, Marisiah feels the weight of her legacy but isn't running away from it like Cade, Antares loves Marisiah . . .

Low Points : Which is all great to know, one of my criticisms in previous issues was not knowing the motivations of the characters. But this is clumsy writing, where the characters all stand around telling each other what their motivations currently are. We could have introduced Jariah's mistrust of Jedi when they were handing one over to Rav in a previous issue, we could have had a scene where Antares and Marisiah's relationship was even hinted at. I suppose we were always clear on what Wolf wanted, but Cade's motivations for not being a Jedi all seem to be based on him healing Wolf, but having to tap into the Dark Side to do so, something which hasn't been properly explained . . . yet.

So what do you really think ? : Long scenes of dialogue as people talk, even in the midst of battle, but even earlier in the issue when they're supposed to be worried about being hunted by the Sith, but keep on talking and talking, kills the tension of them being stuck in a damaged ship while Sith stalk them in the wilderness outside. The fighting just seems confused as well, making it difficult to visualise where this is happening! Is it just outside the ship, or is it a distance away, everyone seems to make it from the ship and back almost instantly, but there's no tension that the ship might be boarded or might be threatened. Dark Horse did excellent confused battle scenes in the Empire Ends comic series, where you could track what was going on, but unless you paid attention it seemed chaotic making the battle seem how you would imagine it really would be like. But this time, it just seems random, without any tactics, without us knowing the lay of the land, just a bunch of fighting scenes put together to call a battle.

Final Words : I remember liking Legacy a lot when it was released, which is why I own the physical copies of the entire series. But I'm struggling to see why at the moment, Cade has had a couple of moments, but by issue 6 of Kotor, I was a massive fan, the characters were fully formed (with motivations and goals), where the story was going had been detailed, and it had proven itself capable of drama and humour, where Legacy is struggling with all those things. It's coming together, but still seems a bit of a mess so far.
I guess we'll see how it progresses.

Score : 8/10
