Star Wars: Legacy: 17: Claws of the Dragon, Part 4

What is it ? : A week later some Sith are discussing how it appears that Darth Krayt is setting up Cade Skywalker to be his successor, but they are not happy as Cade isn't even a Sith yet.
Meanwhile Cade is training with Darth Talon beneath the temple, fighting off various battle droids. Darth's Krayt and Wyyrlock watch, knowing he is just playing along converting to the Dark Side to learn from them, but they think his arrogance is no protection from falling like Anakin once did.
Elsewhere, Moff Morlish Veed is about to deliver some Yuuzhan Vong spy bugs to Morrigan Corde, but Nyna Calixte decides to go instead.
Corde delivers the bugs to the rest of her team aboard Cade's ship, as Jariah Syn declares that he's falling in love with Corde as she delivers the most fun toys. Corde disguises herself as a Sith, and sneaks into the Sith Temple, planting the spy bugs, where they spend the next 3 weeks spreading throughout the temple and giving the team surveillance in all areas.
In the temple, Talon and Cade are talking, as he discovers more about Krayt, how he used the holocron of one of the first Sith, XoXaan, who fled into exile from the Jedi order and embraced the Dark Side. This leads to Cade and Talon embracing and kissing, which the team aboard his ship witnesses through the spy bugs, to Deliah Blue's distress, and the declaration from Corde that if he's fallen to the Dark Side it will lead to either his death or hers.
In the Temple, Talon reports to Krayt that she has deepened their connection, but she still believes Cade is a liar pretending to be on their side, Krayt tells her that Anakin fell, and Cade isn't as good a man as the Jedi of the Clone Wars, so will fall too.
On Ossus, Stormtroopers are scouting the planet looking for any Jedi which might have returned, finding the treasure chamber, but the Jedi mind trick them into thinking they found nothing, and they return to the Star Destroyer in orbit telling them that the planet is clear. However Darth Stryfe, commanding the Star Destroyer senses Jedi, so orders the ship to bombard the temple ruins from orbit . . . .

High Points : I do quite like the idea that Cade is trying to trick the Sith into accepting him and teaching him their secrets, but the Sith have seen this trick too often before, and are just allowing him to corrupt himself.

Low Points : But an entire month passes in this issue, with Cade just training, Stryfe just watching while Stormtroopers scout a planet, and Corde, Deliah and Jariah just watching Cade from hiding. Nothing really happens except time passing.

So what do you really think ? : If that's what you want to do when telling a story, this is when you break away to something else happening else where. This would have been an excellent time to have some court intrigue with the Council of Moff's, or getting back to Roan Fel and what is happening to his insurgency! We haven't seen Marisiah Fel for 10 issues? I really felt she was going to be a main character, and perhaps a love interest for Cade, but apparently not, she wasn't that important.

Final Words : When we entered this story arc, I thought it was to bring Cade into conflict with the Sith, to establish us with a solid direction for this series, where Cade would have a clear motivation which would help give the reader something understandable to get behind. But instead this arc just seems to be about giving us a backstory for Krayt, and making his worldview more understandable. So instead of helping us understand the hero and get behind his actions, the comic seems to be trying to do the opposite and make us empathise with the Sith Lord.
Either this series is going to be a lot more interesting than I first thought, or a lot more directionless and pointless.

Score : 8/10
