40k....*sighs*......40k is something I’ve been trying to avoid for a while now. Don’t get me wrong, I love the lore, the gear, the armies, the setting, everything in the lore. I just haven’t been a fan of GW’s business practices for a while now, especially the past few years, more especially the past two. Further, as much as I love it, the price hike on it all is something I have not ever been able to keep up with. I guess that’s reason #1.
#2. Freddy got to it first, a while back. He started writing stuff up for it, I consider it his, and I’d defer to him first when it comes to who makes what. It’s just how I feel, first come first serve. We both also have different views on how things should be started out. If I did 40k stuff, I’d want to look his previous stuff over and make whatever I did match with his stuff and continue where he left off. All of this out of respect for the guy.
#3. When Freddy first started doing up 40k, I remember being critical, too critical, about how he portrayed them. In hindsight, I believe now I was wrong and came off as a jerk. I regret deeply that. I wish he’d continue making 40k stuff, and always feared I was the reason he stopped. Since then, me views on many things has changed greatly, and acceptance of different perspectives is something I’ve worked on a lot, and I feel this will be a work-in-progress for the rest of my life. But in Freddy’s case, it’s something I feel I need to do, to repay the man for letting me be here to post stuff.
#4. I have had a bad habit for a long time of starting a project meant to last a while, getting frustrated, then dropping the project completely. Concerning write-ups. Mostly explainable as real life getting in the way, but it’s also me, my own flaws. And the Halo stuff I’m doing now is one of those projects. The stuff I’m doing now has “HS1 2021” or whatever year is current added to the title. This is because I started doing Halo stuff before, didn’t finish, other ppl added their own stuff, and I wanted to differentiate my current stuff from what came before, comparing old stats with new, see how my perspective has changed over time, and also to make the newer stuff easier to find when looking for it on here when comparing to stuff I’m going to write up (example: comparing the MA5B to the Covenant Plasma Rifle for similarities on auto fire weapons). Grr *focuses*, I want to see a project through to the end before I start another. Otherwise, I might feel overwhelmed again, and I don’t want to do that.
#5. Focus. Older stuff I wrote up had a lot of detail, too much I feel now, and though I’ve tried simplifying my approach over the years, I still tend to add a lot of detail. I want to cover needed info to have the item function as it does in the source material, yet have it be simplified enough for players/GMs to pick up and use in their games. And I still feel I haven’t found the right balance to this yet. I’ll post something, then come back and adjust it, trying to streamline it for simplicity, ease of reading and understanding and....if I tackle 40k stuff, I can see myself getting deep into that with just about everything in 40k.
All in all....everything being said above....I’m willing to give it a try. But first I want to at least finish Halo: Combat Evolved for Halo write-ups, and try to stick with it, like Freddy does his stuff. I haven’t been able to make it a daily thing due to time limitations irl. But I want to finish that, then if Freddy says ok, I might do some 40k. But I need a stopping point to take a break, do more Halo, then maybe go back and forth between them.
