March/2009 UPDATES

30/March/2009 Posted by Freddy

When the new series of Battlestar Galactica started, I got hold of the entire first season and watched it over a few nights, and have to admit I really enjoyed it. However when the second season began, I found I was frustrated by the slow movement of the storyline, and felt not much was happening, so stopped watching.
The other night when channel surfing, I came across the 2 hour finale to the series which I watched with some interest. Things had moved on from when I'd watched it, so use of Wikipedia was required during the advert breaks to work out who the hell the kid was, and why certain Cylons were on the good guys side. But all in all the first hour went rattling by, and it seemed good enough, then everything fell apart, and I watched an hour of "technology is bad, mmmkay", "Cave women are surprisingly sexy to star warriors" and "there's these angels wandering around in communication with god manipulating everything".
It all seemed a bit of a mess to me, which is why I am extra glad that this week, Hellstormer, the amazing stat creating monster that he's become sent me through this collection of stats for the original series of Battlestar Galactica. Today, I've added Cylon Basestar, Battlestar Galactica, Cylon Raider, Colonial Shuttle, A-B Raider, Anti-gravity Ship, Asp Viper Fighter, Viper Fighter to the Star Wars D/6 Starships Section of the site.
Many thanks to Hellstormer for these, and apologies to all for me being basically lazy and getting nothing done on the site, I'd make the excuse that I bashed my head quite seriously (I was feeling sick and dizzy and collapsed head first into a tiled floor, chipping two of my teeth, cutting and bruising my forehead, breaking my glasses and biting my tongue), but that was only last night so doesn't really hold up as an excuse.

Just a quick update to say thanks to whoever added the site to Stumbleupon, since it was added on friday we've been averageing around 1,100 visitors each day (recently we've been getting around 200 a day), its certainly a boost to the ego to suddenly see lots of people turn up to have a look at the site.
Anyway, thanks again to whoever added us to Stumbleupon, and hello to all you people, hope you find something of interest.

I've added a quick poll, because I'm interested what all the new visitors actually came to see.

Oh, and since I'm ending the previous poll to do this, I might as well announce the results. Well Forbidden Planet romped home, which is pretty darn right as it is a classic movie. War of the World came second (my son has been watching the 1950's version at school as part of their work on HG Wells (they also listened to the Jeff Wayne musical version), which simply made me think that school is way cooler than it was when I was going). Anyway, the full results were.

Well, no updates recently due to my wife getting a new job, and me having difficulty settling into a new routine. Also with the current economic climate I've been busy setting up a few side projects so should my job dissolve, I hopefully won't be left totally destitute. Anyway, enough with the excuses, I've finally gotten around to posting an updated version of Hellstormers awesome Firearms D/6 rules, many many thanks to him for this contribution, but for the changes I'll simply quote his introduction.

D6 FIREARMS 1.2

------------------------------------

What's New: Ater reading the comments and looking some stuff up online, I thought a re-write may be needed. Not a re-write, but a slight change in what was already there. The rules are good, and with a little tweaking and simplifying, they can be even better. This has been done, making the main damage ruling be based on weapons type instead of ammunition, but leaving the old ammo damage rule there as an optional rule should any GMs wish to do so.

The main point of this entire write-up has always been the Autofire rule, which allows for the feel of firearms when in combat in someone's game, giving players (and dangerous GMs!) the ability to unload massive amounts of ammo to cause hellacious damage like many firearms would and should. Beyond this, the only other thing that should be seriously looked at are the weapons types, which give a general idea of damage with certain kinds of firearms, giving people a rough framework to make up more specific firearms rules if they so desire (I intend on sending a few specific firearms in later on, but dunno when I will have the time or inclination). Beyond this, everything else here should be looked at as "OPTIONAL RULES", and should be marked as such now, meaning you can take them or leave them, as a GM and their group decides in their games.

Hopefully, these rules are better than before, and people will enjoy them more than before.

-Hellstormer
