July/2008 UPDATES

23/July/2008 Posted by Freddy

This recently posted on the West End Games Forums

I'm tired of all the work for negative reward. No good deed goes unpunished, as they say.

WEG and all it's properties are for sale, and I'm taking bids. I've been talking with some of the more interested publishers already but I was recent bitched out (what else is new) for not offer WEG for sale to fans publicly.

So I guess D/6 is back out of print. I'm curious about the future of the game and system.

Well after the fun of last week, back to a normal update, very kindly provided by our contributors. I've added KDY Moray Class Sea Destroyer, Galactech "Mousehouse" Armored Personnel Carrier Crawler, Galactech "Fractal" Missile Speeder, Galactech "Frenzy" Missile Crawler, Galactech "Grand Fury" Ground Assault Tank to the Star Wars D/6 Vehicles section, Authority Surprise Pop-Up Flamethrower Emplacement to the Star Wars D/6 Equipment Section all contributions by Alex Panzerkit, Nadwell IV REFIT: Lancer Frigate and Nadwell IV REFIT: Ether Paladine Nebulon-B Frigate to the Star Wars D/6 Starships Section, both contributions by Hellstormer. Thanks as always to these guys for their always amazing work, brilliant stuff, much appreciated.
Also just to let you know, I'm off on my hols next week so its very unlikely I'll do an update (although you never know, depends on what the internet connection is like in the Welsh Valleys and how bored I am :).

Sorry to announce this late, the hack of last week distracted me and made me forget to mention it. I hope you saw it when it was free, but it is well worth the money (if its now available in the UK I'll certainly be buying it).

Well I've recovered the lost data, and the site should now be operating without problem. I've updated the administration scripts to give me more warning about problems like this. I'm still quite pissed about this, but I've solved the effects, at least all those that I'm aware of.

Hi, we've lost some data due to someone with the IP Address 83.39.212.135 deleting the editorials and the latest update (as well as some of our stats), if anyone wants to suggest a fitting punishment, then please let me know. I've already contacted their ISP (TELEFONICA DE ESPANA) and asked them to kick him where it hurts.
Hacking can be fun, I've done some of it in the past, although have never deleted someone elses work to fuck things up for other people. Theres an easy way I can stop the site getting hacked, and thats to take it down completely. The site only costs me money, and costs me time, and hassle like this takes away from the fun.
Anyway, I'll re-add the missing two StarGate characters they deleted (Captain Elisabeth Campbell and Arvin Sloane) and the Star Wars Planet (Skye) as they're all stored elsewhere. My editorials are a stream of consciousness thing, so they're gone, but I was going to write another soon anyway (oh, Google cache seems to have at least one of them :))

Well its run for just over a month, but has had an astounding response rate so I'm really happy about this months poll. Apparently the most popular Movie/TV series to be converted to Star Wars D/6 was Babylon 5 (which kind of makes sense with its capital ships and starfighters), followed by the Aliens/Predator/Terminator movies which I grouped together, with Starship Troopers in third place (which kind of surprised me, but I guess you're all hyped about ST3 as much as I am).
        The full results were . . .

What movies/tv series contain things you would like to see converted to Star Wars D/6?
Battlestar Galactica
 [tally] 15
Firefly/Serenity
 [tally] 30
Stargate SG1/Atlantis
 [tally] 13
Babylon 5
 [tally] 49
Doctor Who

Well, another month, another poll, and I guess this one won't be as popular, and the age of the films I mention probably shows I haven't been keeping as up to date as I might, but go on, let me know which Fan Films you're enjoying.

And again I never managed any other updates last week, honestly I will try to get the Buffy and other stuff up this week (I also meant to update the poll since it had been running for a month), but in my favour is the fact that I am still keeping regular with the Star Wars updates.
Anyway, today I've added Nadwell 4 PDF Prometheus Class Frigate to the Star Wars D/6 Starships Section, which is a contribution from Hellstormer, thanks very much mate. Also Galactic-class battle carrier, The Blue Diver ( Mon Calamari heavy carrier) and Sienar Fleet Systems Eta-5 interceptor to the Star Wars D/6 Starships Section, all done by me (ha, bet you thought I was going to remain a lazy swine forever and rely on contributions).

Well, never got chance for a second update last week, had a job interview for a job I'm not sure I want, but the offer of which will give me some bargaining power in my current job. Anyway, enough of the personal stuff, and on with the updates. I've added Sabers Legacy (Nadwell IV P.D.F. Daedalus Class Battlecruiser) to the Star Wars D/6 Starships section a contribution from Hellstormer (who also sent me a write up of his Star Wars campaign which sounds an absolute stormer), Assan Glorious Retro Archaic Kit Aircraft to the Star Wars D/6 Vehicles section, Galactech Yesterday Fast Passenger Shuttle and Assan Citizen Mover Kit Shuttle also to the Star Wars D/6 Starships section contributions from Alex Panzerkit (the last of the Starships there uses the images of the DeHavilland Comet, an aircraft which my father worked designing the electronics on, which I thought a strangely appropriate co-incedence worthy of a mention), and finally Dovin Basal (Yuuzhan Vong Biotic Symbiont Starship Component) to the Star Wars D/6 creatures section, a contribution by Joe St Laurent, another of his magnificent Yuuzhan Vong creations.
Many thanks to all the contributors this week, amazing work, very much appreciated.
I've also been asked to point people towards the forums, we've got a small but chatty bunch in there, and would love for anyone else to join in, we're all friendly and its been great that some have been breathing new life there after it went into dormancy along with the rest of the site before the relaunch.
